Jan. 5th, 2013 11:10 pmHis lips curled into a self-mocking smile. "Gotta stay upbeat, else you're dead meat..." He chuckled at his words. "To think those ring true about me... I'm such a failure. Even after everything, I'm nowhere even close to my goal. I'm still alone with Lady Palutena and the Centurions, and I keep on fixing problems created by that Calamity." He brought his knees to his chest. "But who cares? As long as everyone's happy, it doesn't matter, right?"
That disturbingly giddy tone he used brought shivers down his double's spine.
"Pit, stop that. I..." Pittoo bit his lip. "I don't really get everything, but I know enough that you deserve to have your parents back. It's not fair for you to stay like this!" He paused, then sighed. "I really am you... aren't I."
Discomfort was the only thing he was aware of.
His head seemed to pound like a hammer to an anvil, and as he opened his eyes he closed them back almost instantaneously, for the light was too bright to bear. His face felt like it was roasting close to the sun, his body drenched and clamy from sweat, making his pyjamas stick to his skin. His throat ached from raw dryness that even swallowing saliva couldn't help ease it.
It wasn't until a bout of dry heaves that brought to his clouded mind the dreaded thought of illness. It just had to happen at his weakest point of his short life.
He then felt a hand rub his back, and seeming from a distance, he could hear Hestia's voice, but couldn't tell what she spoke. He could only groan in response.
"Know what's the best thing about this place?" Jason pointed out with his finger the candles that kept the room alight. "In this weather, they can blow out and leave this place in total darkness. That's why this place is popular for telling creepypasta or the usual ghost stories!"
"I think this place was created for that intention in the first place, Jay," Roxane reminded. "Leave it to Medusa to have that idea last century."
"So, is that what you meant by testing my courage?" Dark Pit asked. Everyone in the room nodded. To his surprise, he shuddered a bit. "I bet you guys know how to enervate Pit, else I wouldn't feel this... hesitant."
Melaina grinned. "We give him nightmares to halt his usual ones! And the best storyteller here is Euclid- since he's been on the team he even got stories that freaks Kalli out!"
"Considering how it went and how perfectly the candles blew out with the story, I think I had the right to scream like a little girl!"
Euclid glanced over from his current project. "That you, Ana? Message from Lord Dyntos?"
"Yep," she replied. "He found some interesting blueprints he'd like you to try and decypher. While he could do it himself, he says you could do it faster. I've got no clue what that's about, but here." She passed him strange stone carvings with heavy details, which made his eyes go wild.
"Ana, these blocks!" he gasped. "These are Babylon blocks!"
She nodded. While her eyes were dead serious, she couldn't stop a grin of excitement to form. "Euclid, don't you know what we have? We finally found the keys to the Last Shard of Babylon. After all these years, we've finally got the means to dismantle that thing. If you can figure out the answer to this puzzle, not only will it mean complete security to the world, but our existence will have further meaning." She almost bounced in place. "We Putts, creatures that never should have existed, would save the world from its most terrifying weapon made by human hands!"
A large smile appeared on his face. "I help everyone with this, I say I'm real and alive!" He echoed his sister's words as best as he could. "Yes! I'll read the blocks and solve problem, for everyone!"
