I've done Robin, and now it's time to talk about his 'other half' and one of the reasons I pre-ordered Awakening, Chrom.
And no, I am not joking. Chrom punched everything I adore in a protagonist- good looking, lovely voice thanks to Matthew Mercer, sword wielder, and WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY CHARACTER CAN MARRY HIM?! It was an extra incentive to get the game.
Holy shit did I get hooked once I started playing. Chrom gave me the impression of Ike, but royalty. Snarky, kind, awkward, devoted to his people- and he's attractive to boot?! I just had to jokingly yumeship myself to him. Well, let's just say when I got the S-support, I got emotional. Chrom easily became a top-most favorite the more I played the game, because of how genuine he was.
Then, Smash 4 began its new Smasher announcements. I mentioned how it attracted my attention to Robin, but despite Chrom only being part of Robin's Final Smash, I was happy he was present in the video! The hurt/comfort girly in me was grinning ear to ear.
Suddenly, we were bombarded with even more Chrom appearances, and it didn't disappoint. First was his DLC cameo in Fates, the apply named "Before Awakening", which was absolutely fun to play because, as it turned out, it was actually Before Awakening- it ends with them finding Robin. Next was a surprise- the crazy crossover Project X Zone 2 featured Chrom and Lucina as playable reps! This means that the Kagaverse is, in fact, canon to Super Robot Wars lore! Tokyo Mirage Session #FE wasn't the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei crossover we expected, but holy shit Chrom's design was AMAZING and I was fond of it. And then came Fire Emblem Warriors, which made me squee with happiness because of the Chrom and Marth convo, among others.
Also, having Chrom early on in Heroes made me happy as well. Even if I stopped playing the game, I always get happy at any new variations of him, and when his child self was revealed, I was happy to see that design again from the comics!
Smash Ultimate finally let him be a playable character, and I don't think people were expecting him to be an Echo of Roy with Aether. Needless to say, I was still happy about it! Finally the family was all together in Smash!
I also wasn't expecting him to be a duo Emblem with Robin when the Engage DLC, but I also didn't expected him to be the one talking to the entire cast instead of Robin. Well, Robin already did it in Awakening, it's his turn. And honestly, I love that it's Chrom talking, because we get to see a lot of his personality shine. We see the snarky, kind, awkward and devoted man found in Awakening again.
Not long after I got Chrom's yumeship S-Support, I just had to make a roleplay journal for him. I chose the name "wyverninheat" directly from that specific support, and I always love RPing as him. He's a dork, and I love him for it. While the yumeshipping is gone (nowadays the character I'd be yumeshipping with is Priam for reasons), Chrom is still important to me as being the one who made me feel special for a moment of time. I'll always be grateful for Nintendo for that.
